Perils of Alcoholism

As a former alcoholic I have a reason to share what it is I know about this destructive force in today’s culture.  It is a terrible addiction which destroys everything in it’s path.  There are so many kinds of drinkers out there or so they believe that.  There are only really a couple; those who occasionally have a drink, and those who’s drinking causes problems.  What I mean here is that some can have an occasional drink and that is where it ends, while others drinking causes problems and in light of those problems refuse to accept that there is indeed a problem.  For my life I was always justifying my drinking for one reason or another, then justifying the problems I had afterwards.

Alcoholism has a few traits that are easy to spot.  One of which is the inability to cope with stress followed by hopelessness.  It is a selfish disease that only gets worse if not dealt with.  Some more traits are brokenness as well as broken homes.  Extreme emotional shifts are frequent from one extreme to the other, highs and lows.  A lot of the times the smell of alcohol radiates off of the individual.  To the trained eye it is easy to spot.  For one cannot really hide the nature of this disease.

There is hope for those suffering in the clutches of this peril.  One does not have to keep on this destructive path.  There is help around every corner.  One must first reckon it to be a problem.  This is where the healing begins.  Bring this addiction to Jesus Christ in full surrender.
